Pastor's Notes

December 1, 2009

Behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.  Luke 2:10 KJV

Dear Jerusalem-Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church Family and Friends,

A blessed Christmas to you and a new year filled with the promises of God.  Our Heavenly Father gave us the best gift ever in the person of Jesus Christ.  Our salvation began in the cradle of Bethlehem.  Without Christmas, there would be no Easter.  The wise men that came to worship the Holy Child brought gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.  Gold represented His royalty, frankincense His divinity and myrrh represented His death.  What gifts can we bring in honor of the Christ Child?  I believe the gifts we can bring are our hearts, our love, our time, and our talents.

Do you remember the excitement and joy as a child of waiting for Santa to bring your Christmas presents?  I remember that Santa even brought gifts that were not on my list.  Christmas was a joyful time.  There was an air of excitement and happiness in my home. Some of my fondest memories center around baking homemade cookies, cakes and a snack named nuts and bolts.  I was so excited I could barely sleep in anticipation of Santa’s arrival.  My prayer is that our joy, excitement, and anticipation of the celebration of the Christ Child exceed the Santa joy.  I remember the evening Christmas recitals at the then Jerusalem Methodist Church.  What are some of your fondest memories?

The leadership and I appreciate and thank each of you for your commitment and dedication to making disciples for Christ.  Our Sunday School Christmas Play will be celebrated on December 20 at 11:00 a.m.  We look forward to your being in worship with us during the Christmas season.

Glory to God!

Rev. Jane E. Wood
