Pastor's Notes

June 2008

Beloved,

Praise God from whom all blessings flow!  We have much to celebrate at Jerusalem-Mt. Pleasant.  July 1 will mark the beginning of my sixth year at JMP, and my excitement continues.  God has enabled us to accomplish much in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  We will be consecrating our elevator and renovation project at our 23rd Annual Homecoming on June 22 at the 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. worship services.  Renovation has begun on Cordelia House.  We appreciate the partnership of Mike Schwartzman of Ross Development, Inc.

The Baltimore-Washington Annual Conference has recognized JMP as being an Acts 2 congregation.  Bishop Schol has said, “The mission of Acts 2 churches is to build disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.  Acts 2 fruits are increased membership, full payment of apportionments and an increase in worship attendance.”

Congratulations on your hard work.  We must continue, however, to press on toward the high mark of the calling of God in Christ Jesus.  While JMP has been in Rockville for over 173 years, the landscape in Rockville has changed and we need to draw from that new community to make disciples for Christ.  Flyers have been distributed throughout the community inviting them to join us on June 11 at 12 noon for a mini retreat from the hustle and bustle.  We will provide a light lunch while they listen to “Jazz in the Sanctuary.”

While I was at Annual Conference this year, I purchased a book by Dr. Rueben P. Job, Three Simple Rules, A Wesleyan Way of Living.  It is based on John Wesley’s way of living.  The three simple rules are (1) Do no harm (2) Do good and (3) Stay in love with God.  Wesley saw these disciplines as central to any life of faithfulness to God in Christ.

As we continue to be an Acts 2 congregation, let us embrace these three simple rules and continue to press on.

Office Hours:
Tuesday and Thursday, 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
